Janeal Downs

BIOGRAPHY: Janeal Downs: is a communications consultant for Optima Health. She began her career with Optima as a technical writer. As a communications consultant, she writes, edits, and designs marketing materials such as emails, letters, flyers, postcards, and brochures.

Janeal came to Optima Health from Entercom Norfolk where she worked as a promotions assistant. She is also a freelance journalist, and AVID tutor for Virginia Beach high school students. Janeal has also been a contributing reporter for Urban Views Weekly, a news intern for WTVR-TV, and an editorial intern for Creative Media Agency, Inc. both in Richmond, VA.

Janeal received a Bachelor of Science in multimedia journalism and a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from Virginia Commonwealth University. She is currently working on a Master of Science in communications with a focus on digital media at Lasell University. Outside of work and school, Janeal is an avid bookworm and often posts book reviews or recommendations on her Bookstagram (on Instagram), @janealslibrary. Additionally, Janeal loves to write fiction, volunteer, visit family/friends, and walk trails or to the beach.
