Eugene Daniel
Before coming to Hampton Roads in October 2020, Eugene spent several years in Peoria, Illinois, as a reporter, and eventually an evening anchor for CBS affiliate WMBD News. In Central Illinois, Eugene covered a variety of issues including local and state politics and launched the stations 4 p.m. newscast providing live, in-depth interviews with candidates and leaders on key topics facing the community.
His work on race relations and issues facing the Black community in Central Illinois received a regional Edward R. Murrow Award for Excellence in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
The Illinois Broadcasting Association awarded Eugene for his work surrounding sports-related concussions and the development of safer football helmets.
Eugene is a self-proclaimed “southern gentleman” born and raised in Marietta, Georgia. He is a proud graduate of Elon University in North Carolina and loves working in the community, especially mentoring children and teens. On top of reporting, Eugene volunteered as a Young Adult Coordinator at his church in Peoria, working with college students and people ages 19 to 29.
