Dr. Ernestine A.W. Duncan

Dr. Ernestine A.W. Duncan is currently serving as the Norfolk State University Interim Faculty Ombudsperson. In this role, she provides confidential, impartial, independent, and informal conflict management assistance to the university community. Dr. Duncan is trained as a clinical psychologist and has over 25 years of experience in higher education. For the past 20 years, she has served on the faculty at Norfolk State University, having earned the rank of Full Professor of Psychology.

Dr. Duncan received her M.A. and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Georgia State University and the Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, Communications and Black Studies from Oberlin College She has received additional training at Harvard University, completing the Management Development Program in 2019. Dr. Duncan moved to Virginia in 2000 to serve as a caregiver for her parents and is the proud mother of one daughter, Courtney Leigh, a 2020 graduate of ODU with a master’s degree in educational leadership. She is an active member of Grove Church in Portsmouth, Virginia, and lives in Olde Towne, Portsmouth.
